Daily Echo feature for Oposium!

Ahead of the concert this Saturday, Oposium have been featured in the Daily Echo under the local bands section. Oposium only discovered that the article had gone to print in the Daily Echo after several people told us that we were in the newspaper. Funnily, the feature appeared opposite a Status Quo review! After picking up a back copy this morning from the Daily Echo offices in Poole, here is the article...

Rehab Rumor Denied! Mr Hair was not in rehab...

The rumor that Mr Hair has just come out of rehab is false! Despite being recently snapped looking all the worse for wear, Mr Hair would like to categorically deny all rumors linking him with a stint in rehab. In a statement, Mr Hair's spokesman said;

"All rumors of rehab, or that Mr Hair has suffered sudden hair loss are all completely unfounded. The picture that seems to have been the origin of such a rumor was taken completely out of context and the singer was simply overdressed to compensate for the recent cold weather. Richard is in good health and will be appearing on stage with Oposium this coming weekend. Again, we would like to stress that no rumor linking Mr Hair with rehab is true."

St Mary's Longfleet - Concert Banner Up for 3rd January!

The Oposium gig banner is up once again! This time outside St Mary's Longfleet ahead of the concert this coming Saturday... So if you're passing, do point it out to fellow people who would otherwise not understand !

St Mary's Longfleet - Concert Banner is up!

Or if you're trying to find the venue on the night, then this should help you! On a serious note, parking for St Mary's is quite difficult but there is a lot of free parking in nearby roads on the opposite side of the main road from the venue (in Garland Road and St Mary's Road especially).

Merry Christmas Message from Oposium!!

"After all it's only one more sleep til Christmas!!!" ... Not quite, but with Oposium taking Christmas day and Boxing Day off this year, we thought we would just write a short, yet very Merry Christmas Message!

This year has seen a lot of fantastic things happen with Oposium. We've welcomed on-board the genius of Dave Waller (aka Professor StiX), seen Sam Hanson (aka Mr Brain) graduate from Cambridge, finished recording our debut album 'Life Under The Sun', burnt a couple of pianos, started PR and are just 2 weeks away from what will be our biggest concert yet at St Mary's on January 3rd. There are a load more things we could add here, but won't...

but really this Christmas message is one of thanks. To all the people who have put up with us over the last year and allowed us to do the things that we do. We're all hugely grateful and if you're reading this and thinking, yes I've been involved with Oposium - then that means "Thank YOU!". All the people who have come to our gigs and supported us, all the people who have made those gigs, video shoots, bonfires happen - thank you!

So all that remains to be said is, a huge MERRY MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!! Have an amazing couple of days and get ready to do it all again next year! ! !

Peace always, God bless us all (as Tiny Tim would say) and off to the penguins Christmas skating party!! !!

Archbishop 'welcomes' credit crunch

Having been debating the pros and cons of the credit crunch, I found this interesting article published today on AOL about the Archbishop of Canterbury's interview on Radio 4. As I found myself agreeing with this, I thought I would post the article up here for debate!

The credit crunch is a welcome "reality check" for a society that has become driven by unsustainable greed, the Archbishop of Canterbury said.

Rowan Williams also hit out at Gordon Brown's plans to combat recession by boosting spending, likening them to an "addict returning to the drug".

The head of the Church of England's outspoken comments came as he delivered a scathing assessment of "moral" failings in Britain's economy.

Interviewed on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, he insisted the country had been "going in the wrong direction" for decades by relying on financial speculation to generate wealth quickly rather than "making things".

The UK had backed itself "into a corner", and must now rediscover "patience" and re-think the way it viewed material gain, he said.

Asked whether that meant the global financial crisis wracking the economy had been beneficial, Dr Williams replied: "It is a sort of a reality check, isn't it - which is always good for us.

"A reminder that what I think some people have called fairy gold is just that - that sooner or later you have to ask: 'What are we making or what are we assembling or accumulating wealth for?'."

Dr Williams went on: "I would like to think that in this sort of crisis people would be reflecting more on how you develop a volunteer culture, how you develop a culture of people willing to put their services at the needs of others so that there can be a more active, a more vital civil society."

The archbishop called on the Government to give more of a lead on "how the civil society is created". He expressed concerns over the Prime Minister's "fiscal stimulus" package, which included cutting VAT to get the public spending again.

The Prime Minister's spokesman later played down the Archbishop's comments, insisting Mr Brown was intent upon "doing whatever we can" to help people through the economic troubles.

Peace,
Richard (Mr Hair)

In other news, the Oposium marketing team would like to point out the deliberate mistake on the last batch of flyers to go out for the concert at St Mary's Longfleet. The actual date for the concert is of course 3rd January 2009, NOT as the flyers state 2008! Thanks to all who spotted this and let us know!

OPOSIUM post Advent Song on Myspace!

Heyup!

In true Christmassy spirit (and of course jumping on the band wagon that so many other bands have done!); Oposium have uploaded a song for Advent to their Myspace. The song is an acoustic number and was recorded during sessions for Life Under The Sun - but now seems a good time to put it up!

St Mary's Longfleet - Venue Profile

As many of you will have seen, our next concert will be on January 3rd 2009 at St Mary's Longfleet church. Supporting Oposium will be indie punk band Not About The Heroes and acoustic acts JLR and View 93. As we always do, we'll be converting the church for the evening with fantastic arrangements of lights, projections and backdrops. St Mary's also have two installed cameras trained and the stage so we'll be looking forward to using them and projecting onto two of three screens with live pictures from the stage.

And that's before we even start on the music... - We've got some big ideas for this concert, although you'll have to come to find out!

St Mary's Longfleet 3rd January 2009 Concert Flyer

Flyers have been printed and hopefully you'll see either one like the flyer above, or one of our distinctive posters up and around Poole. If you don't, you can download it here.

>> Download St Mary's Longfleet Concert Flyer

For any of you who want to find out a bit more about the church, then according to the St Mary's website http://www.smlpoole.org.uk

We [St Mary's Longfleet] are an Evangelical/Charismatic Anglican Church in Poole on the South Coast. In recent years we have experienced much encouraging growth, especially in our children’s and Youth work.

Together, we are aiming to become the kind of Church described in the Bible – a Church with relevant teaching (have a look at our Sermon Series and other courses), vibrant worship, honest friendships, committed prayer, and compassionate care of those in need. In short, we seek to look upwards to meet with God and grow in faith, inwards to support and encourage each other in small groups, and outwards to serve and make a difference in our local community and beyond.

So whether you’re someone who’s just starting to ask questions about purpose in life and God, or a committed Christian who wants to sink the roots of your faith even deeper, we trust that you can find a place of belonging here.

Tickets are £2 in advance, £3 on the door and are on sale now from the Oposium boxoffice http://boxoffice.oposium.com
